Have a great off track!! We have had a successful three weeks. Your children have worked hard and learned a lot. Mrs. Adams has sent home books with some students. If you would like books and did not get any please email Mrs. Adams at marcy.adams@jordan.k12.ut.us and she will meet you at the portable and give you some books.
There are still spots available for volunteering. We have spot with Mrs. Adams class the first and third Thursday from 1:30-2:15. Also the first and third Monday from 1:30-2:15. The first, second, third, and fourth Wednesday from 1:30-2:15. The first and third Thursdays from 10:10-10:55. You could be in either classroom.
The spots for Mrs. Craven's class are the fourth Tuesday from 1:30-2:15. The first, second, third, and fourth Thursdays from 1:30-2:15. The first, second, third, and fourth Tuesdays from 10:10-10:55. The second and fourth Thursdays from 10:10-10:55.
We know this is asking for a lot of help, but Mrs. Adams needs your help supervising and helping students during guided reading. Mrs. Craven needs help with correcting Rocket Math and working with students on understanding math concepts. We will have you in the classroom the entire time helping with students not copying papers out of the classroom.
If you have not filled out a "Volunteer Form" at the office, please do so quickly!!
The Chinese Website is up and running on a trial basis. You may log in to see how it works under that site: www.betterchinese.com with the user name of janet.craven@jordan.k12.ut.us and the password of 123456. Those who expressed interest will be happy to know that the cost is NOT $40--only $25. Those who are interested, please write a check to Foothills Elementary and put it in an envelope with Mrs. Craven's name on the envelope. Just take it to the office. We need 20 at least and so far more than that have shown interest. The site correlates with the Better Chinese Series. We are using the Singapore Series, so the website does not correlate with our Literacy Series, but it still a VERY excellent website that will help your children to progress in Chinese. As teachers we know that a variety of approaches is best for students and this provides more variety. Any one can get on the trial log-in site to "check it out". I will be doing the same :)

Welcome to the third week of second grade. Things are going well. We will be excited to have Mrs. Craven back next week. She learned a lot in her Dual Immersion Workshop and she is excited to get back. Spelling will start this week, so please remember to practice every night.
We have twelve families who have shown interest in the $40 Chinese Website. We need twenty to get the license. If you think you might be interested, please email Mrs. Craven as soon as possible at janet.craven@jordan.k12.ut.us. It should be a very helpful resource.

We have loved teaching your children this week. They are all wonderful and we hope they are happy as well.
This week there will be no spelling because Mrs.Adams has a Chinese meeting on Friday, August 5th. I will need to be at school to train our classes and our 5th grade buddy class. We will start spelling the week of August 8th. The handwriting page will be in pace of comprehension this week.
Mrs. Craven will be out all next week for Chinese training. There is a wonderful Chinese substitute coming in for the week. Please address any questions for both classes to Mrs. Adams.
We are trying hard to monitor drinks and bathroom breaks. Please remember to send your child with a full water bottle. We are not providing them. Ice is discouraged because it melts and papers are getting wet. You could fill the bottle at night and keep it in the refrigerator during the night so it will be cold. Please have your child use the rest room before they come to school.
In the Monday folder will be the August volunteer calendar for both classes. For the week of August 1-5, Mrs. Craven's volunteers please report to Mrs. Adams room. There are still several openings for volunteers. Please email or call Mrs. Adams if you can volunteer for another time. She has both calendars in her room if you would like to come check.
We would like to let you know about a Chinese Website that is a wonderful. It costs $40 and there needs to be at least twenty students from second grade to even get the website. Students who have used it before have greatly benefited. Please email Mrs. Craven if you are interested. We need to get an idea of how many might want to do this.
Mrs. Adams is in the process of assessing both classes in reading. She will know their reading level by the time we go off track. If you are interested in borrowing some of her books to read with your child on their level while we are off track please email her or better yet come in and get some books. This would be beneficial so that your child stays on the same reading during the break.

We will try to send all notes and information in the homework folder on Monday. We will update our blog every Friday with infomation for the coming week. We will send an email during the week with any information that cannot wait until Friday or Monday.
